Over the past few years, I realized that balance doesn’t consistently happen naturally. Especially when constantly stimulated by life, whether through curiosity, ambition or creativity.
Inspired by "Principles" by Ray Dalio and "How to Be the Love You Seek" by Nicole LePera, I started building a framework to help me prepare for my days more intentionally, instead of simply reacting to whatever comes my way.
The idea is simple: before starting the day, I check in with the 8 pillars of my life.
Physical care
How will I take care of my body today? Will I exercise, book a massage session, go for a walk or grab lunch outside instead of eating in front of my laptop?
Psychological care
How will I create calm, clarity or mental space today? Will I meditate for 5 minutes, journal, or make time for counseling?
Emotional & Creative care
What will make me feel inspired or emotionally connected to myself today? Maybe music during my morning routine, drawing a birthday card instead of buying one, styling myself differently, or writing down a piece of poetry when inspiration suddenly hits.
Social care
Who do I want to connect with today? Who haven't I called in a while?
A meaningful conversation, a gentle connection, or time spent with a trusted friend can bring comfort, perspective and confidence. It's often the small moments of connection that help us feel supported before life becomes overwhelming and we accumulate too much background stress.
Administrative & financial tasks
What small task would make life feel lighter? Do I need to rebook a medical appointment, prepare tax documents, order groceries or refill medication?
Work priorities
What truly matters today professionally? Is there a training that could help me move toward my next dream role? Is there a mentor I should reconnect with over coffee?
Strategic Growth
This one category became particularly important to me. This is probably the pillar most inspired by Principles. It’s about alignment between daily actions and long-term vision. What can I do today that aligns with the person and life I want to build in the future? Ideally, all the pillars above should support those bigger life goals - but that deserves a blog post of its own.
Joy & Presence
Because life cannot become a constant optimization project. This is one of the few pillars I like to reflect on at the end of the day. What were natural moments of beauty, presence or enjoyment today that I slowed down for and noticed? Maybe it was watching the waves shape the ocean, discovering a new song, enjoying a warm coffee in the sun, creating something with my hands or simply slowing down for a moment.
Before a new day starts, I jolt down my intentions of the day under by these 8 Pillars on a post-it note. This simple action helps and guides me throughout the day.
At Atelier Numéa, intentional living is not about perfection.
It’s about starting each day with awareness, alignment and care for ourselves, so we can care better for others too.
